Intro to K9 Nose Work® (Summer 2026)

When: 5-week course starting Thursday, July 9 @ 6:30pm Where: Weston Community Center Instructor: Gwen Beaven, NACSW CNWI Cost: $210 non-member, $180 member For more information on membership: https://www.crdtc.org/membership K9 Nose Work® is a great activity for all types of dogs - any breed, size, age or temperament can be successful. In this course, your dog will be introduced to the fun and enriching activity of K9 Nose Work. K9 Nose Work gives your dog an opportunity to use their natural, instinctive abilities to hunt with their nose. Your dog will start their foundation with exercises that emphasize independence, confidence, problem solving and hunting. We will introduce the dogs to searching for food hidden in open boxes and then use that tool to build foundation skills. Prerequisites: - This course is designed for dogs who are new to K9 Nose Work and have not yet been introduced to target odor. - Your dog needs to be able to crate quietly in the lobby or in your car. - No aggressive dogs please. - Dogs should be at least 6 months old. Bring to class: - Several cups of very, very high value, very small, soft-but-not-crumbly treats. Sausage, meatballs, steak, hot dogs, etc, cut into ¼ in cubes, for example. Your dog will eat a lot! - 6-10ft leash, without any thing hanging off it (ie no poop dispensers banging around) - Comfortable flat collar or non-restrictive harness
