Canine Good Citizen Skills (Session 5)

Service Description

When: 5-week course starting Thursday, May 2 @ 7:30pm Where: Weston Community Center Instructor: Wendy Marcks, assisted by Diane Hagelstein Member discount for active CRDTC club members only! FMI: https://www.crdtc.org/membership This CGC Prep class builds on the basic obedience skills learned in advanced puppy and beginner obedience classes using distractions, duration and distance in accordance with what is needed to pass the AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test. Pre-requisites: - For dogs 1 years old and up. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the instructor and may require a brief evaluation. - Completion of an advanced puppy or beginner obedience class (preferably in the last two years). - Experience with sit, down, loose leash walking, recall(come) and attention to handler. In familiar settings with few distractions, your dog will keep their attention on you. - Ability to participate in class without excessive barking or lunging at other dogs. For those dogs that aren’t ready for the CGC Prep class, please consider signing up for the Companion Foundation Skills class. Each class will focus on two or more of the ten CGC exercises. The exercises include: - Accepting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, and allowing light grooming - Walking on a loose leash and through a crowd with distractions - Sitting and lying down on command and staying in place - Coming when called - Behaving politely around other dogs - Remaining calm with a stranger while the owner is out of sight The Advanced CGC (CGCA) and Urban CGC (CGCU) also will be discussed. Some of these additional exercises will be demonstrated and practiced in class. CGC testing is offered separately, from time to time. Check our Events page for the next test offering. - You must pre-register for this 5-week course. Class size is limited. Additional information: - For all classes, please wait outside until the instructor comes to let in the group. - Please potty your dog before class and pick up after your dog. Buckets will be available to dispose of waste.

Cancellation Policy

You may request a refund before the start of the course by emailing us at info@crdtc.org. NO refunds after the first class. Refunds will be credited to the card used, minus payment processing fees. Payment must be made in full before the start of the course. Returned checks incur a $25 fee. No refunds for a missed class. If a class must be cancelled due to inclement weather or other circumstances, we will make every reasonable attempt to schedule a make-up class as soon as possible.
